The names in question on the Census are ancestors of the present day Native American tribe called Lumbee, of Robeson County, North Carolina. For more info try www.lumbeetribe.com. Tribal ancestry with the Locklear name can be traced back to the 1700's.
In my resreach I found a Jacob Locklear ( Locklieer ) 1660 from Va. who moved to Edgecombe co. NC in early 1700's. I found this on the internet. It said That he was French and he married an American Indian Woman.
If you are talking about Paul Heinegg research I am sorry I do not put much in his ideas. He seen the say that the Natives in North Carolina (mainly Robeson and Sampson Counties came from white and/or black. But we know better. He has some good facts but alot of bad ideas.
