I have found a record for the birth of John Gregg July 1811, to Hugh Gregg and Mary Walker. From there on I get stuck. The parish records and civil records are hard to find before 1800. Does anyone have any connection to either Hugh or Mary?
I'm not sure if I can help - but I have Greggs in my family tree - all born in Ireland. The Rev. Tresham Dames Gregg was born about 1800 in Mt. Jerome, Ireland, and I don't know if this is anywhere near your John Gregg. But His father, grandfather, and great-grandfather were all named "Hugh Gregg." I don't have any Mary Walker, however. But I have a Hugh married to a Martha Dames, a Hugh married to a Mary O'Kelley, and a Hugh married to Rose Tresham. This last Hugh was born about 1720 in Ireland.
I don't think we have a match. My John Gregg was born 1811 in the city of Sligo to Hugh Gregg and Mary Walker. Before them is a mystery. They still might have been related somehow. All the Greggs had some connection, no doubt.
Laurel, I believe we are chasing the same information here. My John Gregg (my great x3 grandfather) was married to Ellen Hudson and was born in Sligo, Ireland about 1811. I believe his father was Hugh Gregg.
My lineage - John Stuart Gregg Jr. (me) - John Stuart Gregg - Horace Lorne Crawford Gregg - John James Gregg - George Gregg - John Gregg - Hugh Gregg. I have multiple references for all links but to Hugh and earlier.
Tracing the above family and interested in information about David Gregg born in Yorkshire(?) in 1826 ,died in Australia (Tasmania) in 1917 and was married to a Margaret Connelly (this may have been Kinelly) from Ireland.
Wow - three years since your post! While I don't have your ancestor, it is possible I have one who is related. I have the Rev. Tresham Dames Gregg who was born about 1800 in Mt. Jerome, Ireland, but who married a Sarah Pearson of London, England. They were married in Yorkshire, England and may have lived there for a time. So let me know if this may be a connection for you!
