Does anyone have any information about Joel Dunton, who died in Franklin, Mass. at the age of 42 by the kick of a horse?He was married to Lavinia Gould and they had Charles, Nancy, Alonzo, Eveline and Waldo (my great-grandfather).The family story is that he came here from Scotland but I find no immigration documents for him.I also can’t link him to any of the Dunton families from around New England.His marriage and death certificates don’t list parents or place of birth.Any information or leads would be appreciated.
Does anyone know what became of Emerson Dunton, son of Benjamin and Betsy Dunton of Barre and brother of Sylvanus?Sylvanus, whose life is well-documented, was born on August 8, 1808 in Barre, Mass.At least one source lists Emerson’s birth as August 18, 1808 (10 days later) in Hubbardston.I find no further information about Emerson.Clearly there is a problem with the DOB for one of the children – were they twins?Were they born a year apart?Were there really two births or are they actually duplicate entries?I’m trying to track down an ancestor born around the same time, who appears to have sprung from nowhere.I’d like to prove or disprove that my Joel Dunton and Emerson Dunton are actually the same person.One of Joel’s grandsons is named Emerson and my family also has a tradition of calling people by their middle names so I have more than just the approximate DOB as evidence.Thanks for any information anyone might have concerning either man.
