Anybody who has TUI MARY BETTANY as the wife of JOHN DOWNING, who was b in 1723 is either innumerate or an idiot, or perhaps they have no idea how to research. Other trees are NOT a source of information. Far too many people copy what they find in other trees. A BIG MISTAKE. Other trees are full of errors, such as this one. As many of the trees also have her father b 1899 (correct) it should be obvious to anybody with brains that it 'does not compute'.
I am her sister and I know that she DID NOT m John Downing.
I am trying to find out information on Jon downing and mary lousa banks (possible davenport or brain?) who lived at 55 abbey street in stone, staffs. They were married in december 1896 and had a son caled james. Thanks
I hope you dont try to copy any of the 'information' that a lot of Americans have on John Downing b 1723. Almost 200 people on another well known website have him m to my sister who they claim was b in Ireland. As our parents never ever left New Zealand I think the stork must have gone sadly astray. I know it is my sister that they have as many of them also have our parents correct names for her parents, with dads correct y.o.b. of 1899. They are obviously innumerate or they would realise that there was something wrong there.
Sorry I cant help you with your John Downing, but I just had to warn you about the dangers of copying info found on the internet. I also note that you mention Stone, Staffs. My 3rd cousin lives there. Good luck anyway with your research.
