I am at a brick wall, I cannot find anything for my great-grandfather James Albert Davis b. 1866 in Illinois prior to 1900. He married a Swedish immigrant in 1896 Christina Anderson. He was married prior and had one or two kids from the first marriage that I know nothing more. Lived in various places in Missouri, also Nebraska, South Dakota, Idaho and finally by 1920 Oregon. He died mysteriously in California. No death record has been located. Much folklore is passed around in our fmaily and one story was that he was a minister which would account for the traveling.
I have since discovered James Albert Davis' ancestry and who his first family were. Significant research and a chance lucky random conversation leads me to suspect is that he was a minister in the Salvation Army. I would appreciate any help with Salvation Army info.
