Looking for Grandpa. Homer Cates, worked in Eldorado Illinois in 1934 in a factory. Was married with children. Blond, blue eyed and stocky build. (with research knowing he was older than Gmaw) He might have been born in Ina Illinois and could be on the draft of WWI registration card of 1917-1918, Roll # 0521, Maybe Homer Clarence Cates born July 12 1892. Anna might be the wife, children by them were Delber Cates age 12 in 1930, Charles W. Cates (less than 1) in 1930, Cearl age 8 in 1930, Fadi M Cates, age 4 in 1930.
He never knew he had another child (my mother whom is now gone) with my grandmother, gmaw was ashamed, never would talk about it, Gmaw was age 20 in 1934. The birth was a secret (and during the time he was married.) All I want is to know my kin! on my mother's mother's side. She ( my Mother) always wanted to know before she died. Someone out there has heard I know. Thank you Jamie Strong jstroids@comcast.net 4-6-2012 Have been looking for him for years!
I am looking for information concerning descendants of John Cate Sr, b. 1753 Va. and died in TN early 1800's. I'm David L. Cates .My research started in 1997 but stopped ten years ago. I've lost my contacts and am hopeful more information has now surfaced. Perhaps we have made contact before but please make another contact with me. My data was lost on an older computer. Of particular interest is Christopher C. Cate, son of Gideon Cate. Christopher C. Cate had three children, William, Urile, and a daughter, perhaps named Mary. No record of him exist on the 1870 and later census. He may have died in the Civil War. His wife and children were listed as living in McMinn County, TN with Gideon Cate on the 1870 Federal Census. Uriel J. Cate is my great grandfather Urie Cates' surname changed to CATES sometime after arriving in Texas. He moved from TN to Orangeville, Fannin, TX in 1885. He married Addy Callie Watson in TN December 1885. They had several children, Robert, Jackson Ray, James Afton, Charlie and a daughter, perhaps named Mary. Charlie is my grandfather and my father is J. B. Cates. They moved and lived in Whitewright, Grayson, TX and several are buried in Whitewright Cemetery, Whitewright, TX.
