Joseph was born in 1806 in Port Glasgow. He married Catherine McMillian. His parents were John Crawford and Margaret McConnochy. I am looking fror his parents information.
Look for any information on the Hiney family. Peter Hiney born 1903 (Ireland) died 1983 (Glasgow, Scotland). Married to Carmel (Maloney) born 1905, died 1995.
I am looking to find a relative of Joseph Cowan of 401 Great Eastern Road, Glasgow. One of his daughters, Margaret Cowan, married a John Miller, they had a son and a daughter. John Millar/Miller died in 1920. Margaret Cowan or Millar had another child, Mary, and was living at the same address as Joseph when Mary was born in 1925. Would love to speak with a relative who may know the history of Joseph Cowan and his family.
I don't know if our families connect in anyway, but I'm looking for a relative from approx. 100 years before the dates you state. Adam Cowan was my great, great, great grandfather, and I believe he came to America around 1830. I'm basically looking for the maiden name of his wife, Christina. They lived in Andes, Delaware, New York. Please let me know if you recognize either name and have any information I can start to trace in Scotland. Thank you!
Thank you for getting in touch with me. Unfortunately, as I was not looking for the Cowan family at this time, I don`t have much information, although I don`t think we are connected. However, I will give you as much information as I have:-
The furthest I have went back to with the Cowan family is Joseph Cowan who was born on 29th January 1851in Whitehaven, Cumberland, England. His mother was a Jane Johnstone and his father was William Cowan.
It may be if Adam Cowan is connected to this part of the family, then you may want to try the 1821 census for Whitehaven, Cumberland, England.
Thanks so much for getting back to me so quickly. Right after I sent you my inquiry, I landed on the information I was looking for...found Adam Cowan and, my ultimate goal, I found out the maiden name of Christina (his wife). It was George. So, it seems we aren't related (at least not on this side), but I appreciate your response so much. The best of everything and good luck finding more ancestors!
Looking for more info on my grandfathers family. He was born William James Mc Millan (was later changed to Mac Millan) on Dec 7, 1902 to Sarah Mc Millan (nee Curry) and Thomas Mc Millan. They lived at 1 Belgrave Street in Glasgow. I know he had a sister Sadie (possibly Sarah), brothers Thomas, Robert and Richard that I know of. I believe his mother was from Ireland. Does anyone know how I can find the other siblings names and birth records as I understand there were several more and possibly go back beyond Thomas and Sarah? Is there a way to locate gravesites in Scotland?
Hi - I don't know if I can contribute to your search or not, but there are a couple of possibilities. My great-grandmother was Annie McMillan (who married Charles Patrick). I don't think there's an Irish connection, but the interesting thing is that one of her daughters was named Ellen "Currie" Patrick. I, too, am interested in finding out more Scottish info, gravesites, records, and such. I know there is a website called "Scotlands People" which is well trusted - but they do charge fees for their services. I haven't used it but am told it is very reliable. Good luck! Janice
