In researching my family tree I have now traced it back as far as a James Kirk b.1733.
I am now trying to trace his parents, which I think might be around the Durisdeer area of Dumfries.
In looking up the names of either James or John Kirk around this period, I seem to have many hits of a James Kirko, the famous Covenanter.
His parents were John and Agnes Kirko.
A million to one that I am related to him, but there again somebody is.
It would be nice to establish some further facts and details about him.
James Kirko was served heir to his father John in 1647, laird of Sundaywell, Dunscore.
On one occasion he asked John Osbtirn to bring his youngest son to see him, so by inference he had at least two.
On 13th May 1685 he was shot on the sands of Dumfries.
When was he born, did he marry, where any of his children christened or baptised?
This thread is specifically with reference to a James Kirk born about 1757.
He died on 11 July 1813 in Quaas, Dumfries, Scotland.
He married Mary McLean.
She was born about 1755. She died on 19 December 1830 in Tweedshaws, Dumfriesshire.
James Kirk was buried in July 1813 in Moffat Churchyard, Dumfries (Verified by memorial inscription).
There are various prospective families he might have originated from:
James Kirk born 1733 married to an Elizabeth Broun/Brown born 1738
Alexander Kirk born 1718 Tynron, Dumfries
Alexander Kirk married to a Janet Baxter 15 January 1750
Alexander Kirk married to Janet Walker, with a christening of a James Kirk 24 December 1750 in Tynron, Dumfries
Alexander Kirk married 15 June 1759 to Katherine Hunter in Tynron, Dumfries
Alexander Kirk married to Ann Millar 13 August 1722 in Tongland, Kirkcudbright
Alexander Kirk married to Grizel McMonies 22 April 1729 in Tongland, Kirkcudbright
Does anyone have any direct, substantive proof they are linked to any of the above please?

Agnes Robb Blair McNeice was my maternal Grandmother and I am trying to find out what happened to her. She separated from Joshua McNeice and disappeared sometime after the birth of her youngest child in 1915. Joshua and the three girls left for New Zealand in 1923 to start a new life. Agnes had a sister Jesssie Crawford Robb Blair, born 6th December, 1897 who may have gone to live in U.S.A or Canada.
Can anyone help me to find my Grandmother ? Any help would be appreciated.

I am looking for information on Simon Stock Maher born in Dublin Ireland 1893 and believed to have moved to Scotland in the 1920s or 30s. His parents were Edward Maher and Julia Clince from Gorey Wexford Ireland. Any information gratefully received.
There’s a record of the marriage in the Scottish civil records. The marriage was registered in St Giles, Edinburgh in 1902 ref 685/04 0159. (A marriage conducted in late December would often not be recorded in the stat records till January, hence the 1902 dating).
You can see the marriage certificate on the Scotlandspeople site (pay to view). That’ll give you John’s age and parents names. Then you can use that to find him on the 1901 Scottish census (and earlier censuses, if you wish) which will give you his place of birth. From that you should be able to find his birth cert. The censuses and the birth records are all on the same site.
