So, it looks like John's wife Mary had passed away by 1841, and then he'd died between the 1851 & 1861 censuses as he is no longer with his daughter, Jane, in 1861, who's still in Dalston..
I have transcriptions of the Dalston parish records (most of them anyhow) for my Aikin's from transcriptions posted to the Cumberland mail list thru rootsweb.
And I know that Robert & Ann and family moved to Newcastle & Gateshead and his son Robert (who married Jane GEDDES) is our line of descent and most of what I know about the Aikin family is from the above areas.
I saw LDS subbmitted info in familysearch IGI of a John Aikin born ca. 1776 , of Dalston, who's father was Richard Aikin. I'm now trying to establish if that might be correct or not. I did see a few children, incl. John, born to a Richard in the late 1870's - 1805ish, however I do not know if it's ONE Richard or possibly two.Still working on that too.
Anything on the family(s) in Dalston area would help, any help much appreciated, thank you!
The name has been spelled lots of different ways (Akin, Aken, Aikin, Atkin, Aitkin, Aitken, etc)
