I am trying very hard to trace my fathers family, so far I have my Great grandfather Samuel James Beattie B.1876 in Ireland Died. 1933 New Zealand he was the son of John & Mary-ann / Marian Beattie I am not sure on his mothers name here in New Zealand I am told it was Mary- Ann but the National Archives of Ireland tell me it was Marian, can anyone confirm any information for me. Samuel James Beattie left Ireland with Sarah Jane ( last name unknown)and I beleive Sarah Jane was with child ( my grandfather )
Do you have any Armstrongs tied in with your Beatty Families?
My wife's Harawira line comes down from William Armstrong, Sr. who married Anne Beatty of Ireland & who's father was William Beatty, Sr. Their son William Armstrong, Jr. left Ireland and settled in NZ. I'm currently working on the Armstrong's & the Beatty Families of Ireland.
What part of Ireland did Samual originate from? What part of NZ did he live in?
I am sorry I don't know. Samuel Beattie G. grandfather came from Newtownards is all I know and that his parents were John & Ann ( Marian ? ) Beattie. Samuel married Sarah Jane ( last name unknown )
Samuel & Sarah came to New Zealnd in 1907 I beleive because my grandfather was born here end of May 1908
I have been to busy lately to find any more history
I came across this is in my notes early this morning. I don't see an immediate connection for you, but ALOT of Beatty information for you around the time period you're looking for. I also noted that there seems to be a large gathering of the Beatty Famiily in County Down, Ire. at this time with some leaving for Australia who could have gone onto NZ. Our Wm Armstrong did just that.
If nothing obvious connects, maybe you can place a message and see if these guys now anything you don't.
Looking for Mary BEATTIE, my mother's Birth Mother. Elizabeth, was not "officially" adopted, we have her official birth certificate, & her Baptismal records. She could have been taken in by Stephen & Amelia (HAUSER) HOFF at 4 years old. Mary wrote the adoption agency to meet Elizabeth, ca 1930s. Amelia went instead to met Mary, did not say who she was & left, but she told my Mom she was "the spitting image of her mother" some 20 years later. Sources:

My dad Robert Moore Beattie, his parents and siblings came to Canada in 1926 from rural County Down just south of Bangor in a small area called the Cottown. If you look on a map of County Down it is near Ballygrainey about 3 or so miles from Bangor. My grandparents were James Beattie and Maggie Allen. James was the son of Hugh Beatty and Agnes Gilmore of Herdstown/Cottown and had siblings Charles, John, Eleanor, Christina and Agnes. I'm sure that we have many relatives in County Down but have had no luck as of yet in contacting any. If anyone out there is from that area or has family from there I'd love to hear from you.
Hi Jim, I have Beattie ancestors who was my ggggrandmother was Mary Ann Beattie/Beatty who married Robert Beggs in 1868? Belfast. Her dad was James or John Beattie. She lived a 1 daube St Belfast in 1890s onwards and in the 1901/11 census she lives in 27 Danube St and her son in 29 daube St, |He is called John Beattie Beggs. If we are from the same ancestors please reply. John Beattie Beggs was a boot manufacturer and so was his father Robert. John emigrated to New Zealand a year after his dad died in 1920. Mary Ann then lived with her daughter and shows in the 1911 census. If you type national archives: census of ierland 1911 in google you can view for free. type in mary beggs and danube st then view all the occupiers.
My Beatty/ie folks were from Cottown near 6 Roads End at Ballygrainey. I do know that we had family in Belfast which is quite close but I don't have any info on who.
Good luck with your research, have you looked at the Beatty Project 2000 site, you may find a connection.
