Cornelius Autry, an immigrant to the United States has thousands of descendants. It is widely held that he was born in 1720 in France, and migrated from the Hauote Saone Province of France, but others say he was born in 1709 and migrated from Ireland. The purpose of this posting is to connect with anyone in France and/or Ireland tracing the Autry or Autrey family lineage in those countries.
A website has been established, "Cornelius Autry-Immigrant Descendants", but of wider world-wide interest is the "Autry DNA Project":
I am looking in to the possiblity that the Autrey's came indeed from France then on to Ireland and on again to North Carolina. Cornelius Autry was born in Ireland around 1707, this makes me wonder if his ancestors were French Huguenots.
Many huguenot families show the same movement pattern from France to either Britain or Ireland stay for a couple of year or even a decade and then sailed on to the USA or Canada. Ireland was only a pitstop
As soon as they arrived in Ireland the surname was mispelled as Arterys and they still have this name here
