I am trying to locate the parents of Winfield J. Atkins. Winfield was born about Sept. 1853 in Michigan and died February 1949 in Goldendale, Klickitat, Washington. He was married to a Louisa Melvina Ellis. I know they had at least 7 children: James Ray, Leon Willey (my great grandfather), Winfield Otto, Sherman, Pearl, Morse and Charles.
I found an original land patent dated for 1910 in Goldendale, Washington and know that he moved to the area with his wife in 1900. They lived there until they died except for a brief time (6 years) in Oregon. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
All the census records I'm finding say he was born in VT, but that his wife and children were born in MI.
There's this family in 1860 in Georgetown, Ottawa Co, MI that seems a likely match:
ATKINS, James age 31 b. VT
Eliza age 26 b. VT
Winfield age 6 b. VT
Silva age 4 b. MI
Fred age 0 b. MI
They were in the same location in 1870 and had added Edith, 3, and William, 1, to the family. I can't find the family in 1880, but in 1900 a widowed James ATKINS b. Mar 1827 in VT, is living in the household of his daughter Edith CRIDER (b. MI) in Otero Co, CO.
There's a WA death record for Winfield Jacob ATKINS d. 2-Feb-1949 in Goldendale, Klickitat, WA. Father's name James ATKINS. Mother's maiden name WASHBURN:
I am searching for information re my Paternal Grandfather John Henry Atkins born 26th Oct 1845 or maybe 1851. He was thought to be born in Burton upon Trent England and his fathe was also a John Henry.
My Gr Father joined the British Army when 21 and served for 12 years somewhere in India. He then came to Australia
Very little is known of his life before Australia and so any information would be greatly appreciated
