I am searching for information that might help me “cross the pond” for John Alexander ARMSTRONG.
According to the Death Register for Arlington, Middlesex, Massachusetts, USA: he died in Arlington on 16 Aug 1887; he was age 77 and 1 month, so he was born approximately July 1810; he was born in Ireland; and his parents were Christopher and Mary, both also born in Ireland.
Other records show that he was married in 1850 in Boston, Suffolk, Massachusetts, USA to Mary PRICE, who also was born in Ireland. Therefore, it is assumed that he emigrated from Ireland to America between 1810 and 1850. I have been unable to find any records that would help me to find more information about his parents or any other information about his birth in Ireland.
I would appreciate any clues you might have to offer. To contact me, please reply through this forum by clicking the "Reply" link. Thanks!
I just added burial site photos for Charles Edward & Margaret Jane Armstrong in New Zealand. I also added burial site photos for Karorina (Matemoe) Armstrong. Earlier this month I added burial site photos for William Armstrong, Jr who originally came from Ireland & is buried in New Zealand. See all these & much more at my site, Family History Moments:
I'm looking for the parents of Wm Armstrong, Sr. who was born 1813--1817.
Also looking for the parents & siblings of his wife, Anne Beatty who was born between 1819-1821.
Anne married William Armstrong at the age of 26 in May 1847 at District Church of Lisnaskea, Parish of Aghalurcher in the Couty of Fermanagh, Irealnd. Marriage Record indicates Anne was living in Moat prior to marriage and her father was a farmer.
Her father's name was William Beatty and had a relative, James Beatty, also attend their marriage.
William Armstrong, Sr. was 34 yrs old on Marriage Record, aWriiting Clerk living in Coxton, Ireland. His Father's name was also William Armstrong and was a farmer. He also a relative attending the wedding named Charles Armstrong.
Wm Jr. died in 1874 & is buried in Laghy Cemetery, Ire.
William and Anne had five Children all born at Coxton, Fivemiletown, Donegal County, Ireland.
William Armstrong, Jr.- Born 10th July 1850 (Immigrated to New Zealand.)
Elizabeth Armstrong- Born 15th day of August 1852 (Married an American and settled in USA.)
Anna Armstrong- Born 6th August 1854 (Married an Englishman and settled in UK.)
Eleanor Georgina Armstrong-Born 20th March 1859 (Believed to have died in USA.)
Mervyn James Armstrong-Born 26th June 1861 (Died in 1888)
Anne died in 1891 and is buried in Laghy Cemetery with a few other members of the family.
Anne left behind a wealth of beautifully preserved information contained inside a Family Bible which we're willing to share. Many family photos also available. I'm also in contact with descendants of Annie Armstrong in UK and Elizabeth Armstrong's descandants living in Washington DC area. My wife is a descendant of Wm Armstrong Jr from NZ so we have much information also available on his hundreds of descendants.
I'D LOVE TO HEAR FROM ANYONE WITH POSSIBLE MATCH TO ANNE OR WM OR SIMPLY WORKING ON ARMSTRONG OR BEATTY FAMILIES IN THIS AREA OF IRELAND.
***CHECK OUT OLD ARMSTRONG & BEATTY FAMILY PHOTOS ON MY BLOG: http://beattyarmstrong.blogspot.com/
Just wanted to say that I posted some new information on my Armstrong-Beatty Blog that may point to the missing link between the two families. I don't have everything tied together yet, but it's getting closer. Have a look at the info. on my blog and let me know whet you think: http://beattyarmstrong.blogspot.com/
I am looking for any relations of Robert James Armstrong born 1916 in Harlepool, particularly on his fathers' side of the family. I believe his father may have died when he was only quite young. I am trying to map out my family tree. I do know his mother was called Elizabeth Olive Hewitson, more commonly known as Olive.
I forgot to mention, in addition to the old family Bible, we also have a selection of old Armstrong Family Photos, including Mervyn Jame's Mother, Anne Beatty (Armstrong) and several of Jame's siblings. Do you have any photos of your James Armstrong? I think they all look so much alike, especially the nose. It's very distinct and English. My wife has the same nose many generations later. Thought this detail might help in your search.
I'm really intrigued with your search. I just posted a message under Armstrong as well as Beatty and I have a (Mervyn) James Armstrong who was the brother of my wife's 2nd Grt Grandfather (Wm.) who died young (Age 27) and is buried at Laghy Graveyard in Ireland. Little more is know of him so it could be a long shot. I haven't done any research on him to see if he was ever married or had any children and this little bit of information came from an old family bible also in the UK.
It's interesting to note that our James Armstrong had a sister named Annie and his mother's name was also Anne. Now you can see my interest in your search, Ann.
If you think this could be a match for you. let me know and I'll forard your information on to Cousin Claire who's also in the UK. (She's a descendant of Annie Armstrong.)
