Hello and welcome to the PROKOSCH Family Board. I am researching my Prokosch line and also 4 - 5 others... trying to make a connection. This is what I have learned.
Many of our Prokosch families lived in small villages in Austria (Bohemia), on the border of Germany.They spoke German as their native tongue.In fact 4 or 5 of the (Minnesota) Prokosch lines lived within a few kilometers of each other.My family’s village was called Trohatin, now known as Drahotin in the Czech Republic.Many of the Prokosch families immigrated to the U.S. in the mid to late 1800’s and quickly headed to New Ulm, MN.My family later settled in Bird Island, Minnesota in Renville County. In addition to Trohatin/Drahotin, Horousany/Horauschen, Melmitz/Melnice, I have also found mention of other Prokosch lines in these villages: Zemschen/Tremesne, Possigkau/Bezdekov, Hostoun/Houstau, Sidlakov/Schilligkau, Horsovsky Tyn/Bischofteinitz, Muttersdorf/Mutenin, Mantov, Kschakau/Krakov, Mirschikau/Mirkov, Luditz, Hvozdany/Hoslau, Berg/Hora Svateho Vaclava, Destna, Wottawa, Liskovec/Haselberg, Tscharlowitz, Natschetin, Kleinsemlowitz/ Klein Wonetitz/Boneticky, Raschnitz/Mracnice, Radelstein and Ronsperg/Ronsperk/Pobezovice.
