I am researching the Phinehas and Daniel Whatley Line. They both came to Louisiana prior to it becoming part of the US. Daniel Whatley born in Virginia and Phinehas born Wateree (Catawba), North Carolina 1755.
Daniel was a Indian Spy during the War of 1812. Two of Phinehas's grandsons Uriah and Enoch Whatley spoke several native tongues and were used to make contact with Indians in Territory and Texas prior to 1840 by the methodist. Phinehas had a sister named Lucie, she married a John Baptiste in Pensacola Florida in 1796, then moved to Catahoula Parish. Their Decendents were removed from Catahoula Parish as Choctaw Indians around 1880. They were listed as reasons by the Department of Interior for denial of status to others in the 1970's.
Daniel's Father Shirley Whatley filed a petition agianst the tax on Indians having a white woman living in their houses in 1755. Daniel was Married to a Amelia Barker (Amie) they had a son name Xerxes. Phinehas Whatley's wife was never identified with the exception of the name Bowls or Mary. Some researchers have put a Mary or Mary Lucy Edwards as Phinehas's mother but she was only around 6 ot 7 years old at the time of Phinehas's birth.
