My Uncle was George August Burlieigh married to Hazel Stangel they had a daughter named Nancy Burleigh bn in 1949. George Burleigh is my mother brother and my uncle. I have done 30 years research on the burleigh from maine and new york. My grandfather who was George Augusta Burleigh rode with Teddy Roosevelt as one of his rough riders and had a saber scar on his face from the spanish-American War. I am seeking information about my gg grandfather's family. William Charles Walker born 1842 in Rathdrum, Co Wexford Ireland and came to New Zealand in 1860. .I have no information re his parents, except that they were protestants even though I understand there was a large family of mostly brothers in Ireland. I understand that many of his siblings chose to immigrate to Canada.
Daly Walker Sr. was recognized as a new Revolutionary War patriot by the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) December 11, 2010. He took the Oath of Allegiance to make a land entry in Burke County, North Carolina, in 1779 (Huggins, Burke County, North Carolina Land Records, vol. 2, p. 15.), and he provided a substitute for RW military service (State of Tennessee, Dickson County, Explanatory Declaration of Isaac Walker, 1833). Isaac Walker’s Explanatory Declaration stated that he substituted for Daly Walker—County of Burke, State of North Carolina. Additional information included Isaac Walker’s place and date of birth, “In Prince George’s County in the State of Maryland on the 16th day of April 1754.”

The 1830 Federal Census record of Knox County, Tennessee, enumerated Daly Walker Sr. as 70-80 years of age, suggesting he was born between 1750 and 1760. A deed record for Daly Walker Sr.’s parents, Charles Walker III and Elizabeth Daly/Daily Walker, places the family in Prince George's County, Maryland, in 1768--Frederick County Court [Land Records] [MSA CE108-8] L p.0416. Daly Walker’s family moved to North Carolina after 1768, indicating that Daly Walker Sr. was born in Maryland. The family settled in North Carolina in the Wilkes, Burke, and Alexander County areas. The 1779 Burke County, North Carolina, land plots identify Charles Walker, Daly Walker, Simon Walker, and Isaac Walker sharing boundaries. Neighbors included John Jones, William Smith Sr. and William Smith Jr., Patrick Sloan, Richard Hood, Lucas Hood, and many others. The marriage bond of Daly Walker Sr. and Hannah Smith “of Burke County” was dated November 27, 1778, in Wilkes County, North Carolina. The marriage bond was signed by Daly Walker, Charles Walker, and Renelder Walker.
Daly Walker purchased land (1815, No.157, Michael Tabler to Daly Walker, Deed 70 acres, Flat Creek—written in the deed as 72 acres) in Knox County, Tennessee. The land stretched to the "piney spur” of House Mountain where the Walkers became known as the “Walkers of House Mountain.” Now, in 2010, descendants still live around House Mountain and own the land where the Old Walker Cemetery is located.
Daly Walker Sr.’s will was written in 1830 in Knox County, Tennessee, and was witnessed by James Kearns, Thomas Lowe, Lucinda Lowe, and James Fry. Daly Walker Sr. identified his children as Catherine, Edney, Isaac, Sarah, Daly [Jr.], Mary, Martha, JoAnna, Jenny, and Nancy. His will was probated in 1836 in Knox County, Tennessee. His widow, Hannah Smith Walker, was enumerated in The Federal Census of Knox County, Tennessee, in 1840 as head of household with age given as 70-79 years of age. There were three others in the household, 1 male 15-19, 1 female 20-29, and 1 female 40-49. Hannah’s neighbors included the families of McBee, Lowe, and Fry.
Isaac Walker (who substituted for Daly Walker in the RW War and who is believed to be the brother of Daly Walker Sr.) migrated from North Carolina to Fayette County, Kentucky, and then to Dickson County, Tennessee (Explanatory Declaration of Isaac Walker, 1833). Charles Walker (Charles Walker III?) was also in Dickson County. The Dickson County Handbook by Jill Garrett, 1984, p. 120, has the following entry:

I've been looking for information on Matthew William Walker, born in 1776 in Virginia. He married Mary Magdalena Bruner around 1820 and had several children, including my 3rd great-grandfather, Alexander Stuart Walker (1832-1891). Matthew died in 1850 in Jessamine County, Kentucky.
