Looking for any Turners, Originally from stoke on trent staffs (butt Lane), The turners also owned the picture palace on butt lane so any info or connections people may have would be welcome. trying to trace family back but only got as far as my grandad and his brothers one of whom (george Turner) was a councilor around the area for a while and had Turner Avenue in audley named after him.
Thomas & wife Charlotte with sons Frederick & Samuel are in 1841 England Census in Birmingham, Warwickshire. Charlotte seems to disappear after that; Thomas probably reappeared in 1881 in London, lodging with non-family but still recorded as being married; Frederick & his family emigrated to New Zealand in 1870 and I am interested in making contact with descendants of Samuel for the purpose of comparing notes on hopefully common ancestry. Frederick is my great-grandfather.
Hello Barbara, boy do I hope something comes from this contact with you!!
I have an unproven date & place of 9 November 1835 at St George, Birmingham, Warwickshire, England for the marriage of Thomas TURNER & Charlotte TAYLOR from information in IGI data submitted by a Church member.
I have Thomas's birth date as before 3 April 1817, because of his age in the 1841 Census, although a contact (Keith COURTNEY) has him born about 1810.
I have Charlotte's birth date as before 12 March 1817, because of her baptism on 12 March 1817 at St Mary, Warwick. Other contacts (Keith COURTNEY & Shona TOFTS-LIYANAGE) have her also born about 1810 and the 1841 Census says she was born in Birmingham.
I have Thomas (the younger) as a glass-cutter, but your question about a bootmaker is of interest because his grandson (my grandfather here in New Zealand) was a bootmaker. I have Thomas (the senior) as an agricultural labourer.
I have Thomas's parentage as Thomas TURNER & Sarah WATTS and Charlotte's as George TAYLOR & Elizabeth WILKINSON.
Given the possibility of errors in the above, does it look like a match with your information in any way?
