I am trying to acquire information on John Thompson, born around 1835 supposedly in Australia, died April 8, 1914 in Sydney, Australia. He served during the American Civil War in Company “E”, 12th Regiment, New Jersey Infantry; known as the “Buck and Ball Regiment. From his pension card it appears he had a wife; but I don't know who she was. Any information you can provide on him, his family and where he is buried will be greatly appreciated. firstname.lastname@example.org
I just began creating and researching my genealogy. Only about two years ago we came in contact for the first time with my mother's biological side of the family. From her mom we were given a few names and dates. One of the furthest back was a woman named Pearl Provence (Born Thompson) who married a William Allen Provence. They would have lived around late 1800's to early/mid 1900's. Pearl would be my grandmother's grandmother. To our knowledge the line from my mother's mother is French and Native American (Cherokee and Choctaw). Any information would be greatly appreciated.
I have some info on William Provence and Pearl Thompson. Pearl had married once before, to Elza L. Bensley, and the couple had a child Raymond C. Bensley, who grew up in Illinois where Elza was originally from. I am blood-related to the Bensleys. On top of that, William had been married previously, to J. Nelia Almond and at least three other children. By the way, my understanding is that William's middle name was Andrew.
Let me know if you are interested in further stuff. I do have some dates, and a picture (scan only) of Pearl and William. Happy to share.
