I'm trying to find the death notice/ record for what I believe is my grandfather, who seems to have been a bit of a mystery to the rest of the family. My mother was adopted, but from talking to other sides of the family we know he left for South Africa from England in 1950, and was a violinist.
I think I’ve found his memorial stone in a Durban crematorium, but when I search the National Archives of South Africa, I can’t find a record for him at all. The information I have from the stone is his date of birth (17/02/1920) which matches his records in England, and a death date of 14/03/1991.
Are there any other sources which could help with finding out more about him?
i am trying to find out anything about my mother, Edna May England born 21st Jan 1907 maybe in Cape Province, South Africa. Mom married Robert Young on 27th Aug 1946 in Durban. If anyone has info please let me know.
Have been attempting to gain information about the above individual, my great grandmother. She was born in 1862, we believe in South Africa. Two of her sons, Percy and one other son were born in what is now King William's Town. She married one James Greaves in SA in approximately 1883. The family moved to England. She died in 1901 at the age of 39. Alice had 9 children. I heard from my aunt that Alice's family were well to do and may have been involved in diamond mining; however, that is not a certainity.
We believe she had siblings.
A cousin was named who resided in SA - Ruth Dalgety.
