I'm looking for any information on my family that lived in Winterton, KZN. To be specific they lived in "Mayor's Walk" in later years after moving from their farm which was near the Spion Kop Dam - unconfirmed story handed down to me.
I know two names: Charles & Popsy Clark, but that's where the trail runs cold for me.
O'Connells in South Africa. Looking for anyone researching this family originally from Kerry, Ireland, who came to South Africa early 1820's? John settled in Oudtshoorn and Michael his brother, in George.
My grand father on my farthers side was James Ross Mitchell from Perdekop (District of Knysna) and worked in the forests of Knysna - Knysna area and my grandmother was Nancy Elizabeth (nee Van Rooyen) they had the following children: Archibald Kenneth (my father who was married to Caroline Magrieta Nee Du Preez from Robertson (born on the farm Goudmyn), Anna Rubina (no detail about her available), Cornelius Thomas who was married to Nora (maiden name not known) he died in Clanwilliam (Western Cape) quite long ago, James Ross who was married to Suzie(maiden name unknown) they lived in Port Elizabeth area.Duncan Olaff( nothing really known except that he stayed in Uitehage at one stage, John William cannot remember much about him except that he had a son James Mitchell who at one stage was a cabin attendant at SAA but later studied in theology. Elizabeth Nancy who was at one stage married to a Fechter from Kysna- if my memory serves me correctly. Reginald Charles Henry who was employed somewhere in the Fochville area, Cyril nothing really known about him, Raymand very little known but believed he also resided in the Uitenhage area.
A nephew of my farther Archibald Kenneth namely Eric Hamilton Mitchell passed away on 25.07.1986 at the age of 60 and was burried from the NG Church, Vredendal-West, Western Cape; the bearers were Garth Mitchell (Son), Gussy Mitchell(Brother),Johnny Mitchell (Brother) and Raymond Mitchell (Brother)
If anybody know anything about them please contact me.
The Mitchell brothers were rather close and I was fortunate to know them all. My grandfarther was Ross James Mitchell who was married to "Suzy" Mitchell nee Ainslie also from Knysna. The youngest brother, Raymond passed away some 2 years ago in Knysna and was the last living of their generation.
Thank you for responding. I am verry chuffed with this site. If my information is correct the there were two sons Jossie and Ivan. So where do you fit in? The information that I have is that Suzie and these two sons were living in Port Elizabeth untill recently. Please feel free to communicate with me via e-mail so that we can exchange info. I have a wedding photo of Ross&Suzie but am battling a bit to get it onto the site.
