My paternal grandfather was Major Edward George Smith and he married Edith Kate Sutton and they had seven children. What I would like to find out is more about bothe their ancestries. My grandfather's parents were: Gorge Smith and Hermina Elizabeth Berry. He was born in January 1871 in King William's Town, Eastern Cape, South Africa. My grandmother, Edith Kate Sutton was born on the 13 July 1974 in Colchester, England to a military family. Her father was Samuel Suttonn an Armourer Sergeant in the 2/10 Regiment and her mother was Emily Morgan. The British Government sent troops to South Africa in the 1880s but I have no idea of what they were supposed to do nor how long the stayed in South Africa. My grandmother married in about 1894 and remained in South Africa, as did a brother, also Samuel Sutton. Does anyon have any additional information on these two families?
