I seek descendants of the Gillespie family of Hudson, New York. Bridget Gillespie (1852-1883) was the first wife of my great-grandfather, Michael Higgins. Her parents were William and Winnie Gillespie. Her siblings were Maurice, Catherine, William, Edward, John, Mary and Fanny.
Bridget married Michael on May 12, 1872, at St. Mary's Church in Hudson, NY. Their son John was born in July, 1872 and their daughter Maria was born in 1875. Maria's name doesn't appear on any records after 1880. I don't know what became of her. Bridget died in 1884. Michael got married again in 1885, to Anne Keyes, my great-grandmother.
Briget had at least one sister, Catherine, who married Charles McDermott and had a daughter Maria, born September 1874. Bridget was a sponsor at Maria's baptism.
If you are connected with these Gillespies or McDermotts, please contact me. If you have any old photos of Bridget and Michael and John, I'd love to obtain copies. I have some great material that I can send you copies of also. Thanks. -- Clare Higgins, clarehhiggins@yahoo.com.
Hi. I'm looking for descendants of James and Winifred Higgins, who were both born in Ireland but who were living in Hudson, NY in 1880. I have reason to believe that James was a son of my great-great-grandfather, Morris Higgins.
Morris (c.1820-1879) came to the U.S. from Ireland in 1850, with his wife Kathryn. They settled first in Moira, Franklin County, NY, and in 1853 moved to Hudson. They had 17 children, three of whom died in infancy. One of the children was named James.
The 1880 Hudson, NY census record shows a James Higgins (age 35) living with his wife Winifred (age 30). They had three children: James Jr., age 6, Martin, age 4, and Patrick, age 1. I don't know if this is my family and if anyone can help me determine this I'd really appreciate it. Please reply here and I'll be notified and get in touch with you. Maybe we can discuss trading copies of family memorabilia. I have a lot of great stuff.
Hi. I'm looking for relatives of William and Ellen Higgins, who lived in Hudson, NY. Their names are on the 1870 census. William was a police officer and it's hard to read his age on the census - looks like 33. Anyway, his wife's name was Ellen (38 years old in 1870), and they had three children: William, age 13, Mary Ann, age 11, and George, age 9. All the kids were born in New York.
The reason I'm interested in this family is I think William may have been a son of my great-great-grandfather, Morris Higgins. Morris (c.1820-1879) came to the U.S. with his wife Kathryn in 1850 and lived first in Moira, Franklin County, NY and then moved to Hudson in 1853. They had a total of 17 children, 3 of whom died in infancy, and one of them was named William.
Please email me if you're a descendant of William and Ellen. I would like to discuss swapping copies of family memorabilia. I have a lot of great stuff. Thanks. -- Clare Higgins
