HIT a brick wall on my 3rd GG Father Francis Henry Norton. He was born in Tasburgh, Norfolk, England (1791-1853). He died in France. He had a managerial position in Buckingham Palace. Manager of the kitchens. I believed he had this spot after working for the Duke of Uxbridge, following the Duke to the Palace. I am having trouble finding his parents in an effort to trace back further.
He married Margaret Williams in Culford in 1812. The closet thing I was able to find for his birth was a Francis Norton Ellis being born in Tasburgh in 1789. The christening only listed a mother, Anne Ellis . (no Father) A Henry Norton married an Anne Ellis in Tasburgh 1799. It listed them both as being born in 1778.
If that is his parents they would have only been 12-13 at the time of his birth. I was told that in the event of an unwed mother, the child often was given the father's surname as a middle name in hopes of an impending marriage. Then the mother's surname coould be dropoped.
I would appreciate any constructive comments or help.
