I found information on James Harvey Boyce, born July 20, 1877 in Fredrick County Virginia . He worked for the Johnstown Coal & Coke Company & he was 5ft 91/2 inches, had blue eyes, weighed 185 pounds with a light complextion. I found this information on Ancestry.com & it was under the U.S. World War II Draft Registration Cards, 1942 .
I hope this helps.
My Great Grandfather worked in the coal mines some at Vindex, MD. Herbert W. King. Also some of my maternal great grandmothers family lived in that area the Puffenbargers.
Thanks for the info. That was my Grandfather, but they are being generous with the weight and height. He was more like 5'6". Don't know what his weight was then, but when he passed at the age of 94, he was very thin. When I was young he was maybe 120 pounds at best.
The real info I need is about his parents and those before. I am in process of researching, but have been on a hiatus do to having to find a new job. Soon I will be making a trip to Virginia to find what I can.
I can't say the names King or Puffenbarger ring any bells, but I will ask some kin.
Very kind of you to reply.
Best to you and yours.
By the way, not much left of Vindex, except the foundation of the general store. Mostly it is reclaimed by nature. I believe there are maybe 3 houses still there.
Thanks again. I have this info, but much appreciate the input.
My sister is from Corinth, just down the road from Terra Alta. You may know each other. She graduated from Southern. If you are interested and want to find out who she is, send me a line. My email is email@example.com She mentioned that she thinks she may know who you are and that you may be friends from high school. Just by going by your screen name.
