My great-great-great grandmother is Elizabeth Iona McDow. It is rumored she was full-blood Cherokee Indian.
I have been unable to locate any information on her parents which leads me to believe this was her Christian/American name. She married James S. Smith in 1890. Their daughter, Mary Magdalene Smith married John William Matthias "Mack" Cotton. Mary and Mack's daughter, Agnes Cumilla Cotton married Shell Waites and had Gladden Lee Waites (my grandfather.)
