About our family
My mother, Ani Maria Murphy (nee Hiku), born in 1932 in Otaua, Northland, New Zealand. From my mother, our hapu is Ngaitu tearu, Pukerata is our Marae, Ngatokimatawhaorua is our waka, and Puhangatohora is our Maunga. My father is John Peter Murphy (or Hone Pita Mapi) born in 1937 in the Utakura valley, Hokianga, Northland. On dad's side our maunga is Whakarongorua, our awa is Utakura, our Marae is Puketawa, our waka is also Ngatokimatawhaorua ad our hapu is Te Honihoni.
Missing pieces
We have very little to go on, on my dad's side, he was born to Mary Rose Murphy (Mere Roihe Mapi) in 1937 in Utakura. He was raised by his uncle Pita Mapi. my great grandparents were Himiona Aporo Mapi (Jim Murphy) 1884 - 1942 and Akinihi Hau (Agnes Howe) 1894 - 1922. They had 8 children that I know of; being Pita (Peter) Mapi, Celia, William (killed in Italy), Agnes, Mary, Nutana, Jon & Mereana. March 2022 UPDATE & EUREKA MOMENT!!! We have found our dad's biological father with the help of DNA, and absolute wonder for finding living relatives, if thy give their DNA too. Hallelujah!!!
