About our family
HUTCHINSON CREST IS RED & BLUE WITH LION. The name hutchinson was first used by Viking settlers in ancient Scotland. It was derived from Huchon, a diinutive form of Hugh. Patronymic surnames arose out of the vernacular and religious given name traditions. This name is the equivalent of Hugh in the vernacular Scotland. The suffix son indicates "son of. "Spelling variations of this family name include: Hutchinson, Hutchison, Hutchins, Hutcheson, Hutchenson and others. First found in Northumberland, where they held a family seat from very ancient times, some say well before Norman Conquest and the arrival of Duke William at Hastings in 1066 A.D. Some of the first settlers of this family or some of its variants were: Edward Hutchinson, who settled in Boston in 1634; with Mary his wife; Richard Hutchinson settled in Salem in 1630; along with Thomas; Joe Hutchinson settled in Virginia in 1634.
Missing pieces
You may have noticed that the Hutchinson family extends back to the mid 1500's with Edward & Sarah (Susan) Hutchinson. This information has been entered in lieu of definate accurate information as an attempt to find a direct link to and from William & Anne (Marbury) Hutchinson to the present day Hutchinson line. I have endeavored to do this primarily because as a child I used to walk through the Boston Gardens with my father who would show me a statue of Anne (Marbury) Hutchinson and tell me I was a descendent of hers. Religious leader and American pioneer, born in Alford, Lincolnshire, EC England, UK. In 1634 she emigrated with her husband William to Boston, MA, where she was intensely committed to the Puritan movement and began to organize religious discussion meetings which rapidly took on a political tone. These meetings were suppressed in 1637, and she was expelled from the province after being tried for heresy and sedition. With some friends she acquired territory from the Narragansett Indians of Rhode Island, and set up a democracy (1638). After her husband's death (1642), she removed to a new settlement in what is now Pelham Bay in New York State, where she and most of her family were killed by Indians. My research has led me to at least 8 children of William & Annethree of which were killed in the Indian raid above. It appears that Edward, William & Zurie Hutchinson may have survived along with two sisters, Elizabeth & Mary. This fact gives me hope that I may find additional descendents in my research. http://encyclopedia.stateuniversity.com/pages/1485/Anne-Hutchinson.html In southern New York State, the Hutchinson River, one of the very few rivers named after a woman, and the Hutchinson River Parkway are her most prominent namesakes. A statue of Anne Hutchinson stands in front of the State House in Boston, Massachusetts. The inscription on the statue reads: Anne Marbury Hutchinson was killed by Indians at Pelham Bay, Long Island Sound, in what is now the Bronx. For its genesis, jump to West Farms Information. In 1987, Massachusetts Governor Michael Dukakis pardoned Anne Hutchinson, in order to revoke the order of banishment by Governor Endicott, 350 years earlier.http://encyclopedia.stateuniversity.com/pages/1485/Anne-Hutchinson.html#ixzz0j12NXFiFhttp://www.winthropsociety.org Recent research has led me to Royalty and this is an interesting aspect of New England descendants of European descent. If you are interested in discovering your own relationship to Royalty you may want to check out this link to determine a possible relative to begin your search. My discovery was by accident through my Great Grandmother Diana Torrey. The Torrey name is on this list. Have fun with this information.   https://www.geni.com/projects/New-England-Gateway-Ancestors-of-Proven-Royal-Descent/43693
